Forza Horizon 6 Unveils Japan Open World at Developer_Direct

During today’s Developer_Direct presentation, Playground Games revealed an extended preview of Forza Horizon 6 and its Japan-inspired open world. Xbox Wire provided additional insights into the development process, cultural integration, and new gameplay mechanics.

Forza Horizon 6 Players begin as tourists rather than established racers. The Horizon Festival serves as an objective instead of an initial setting, introducing newcomers to Japan alongside knowledgeable companions.Forza Horizon 6

The open world features distinct districts with rapid environmental transitions. Tokyo’s representation includes residential neighborhoods with tight streets and overhead cables, industrial docklands with shipping infrastructure, and a vibrant downtown showcasing Shibuya Crossing, Ginko Avenue, and Tokyo Tower. Playground Games prioritized authentic driving atmosphere over geographic accuracy while maintaining series-signature exploration and aerial stunts.

Two characters accompany players: Jordy, a motorsports enthusiast, and Mei, a Japanese automotive specialist providing regional knowledge. Cultural consultant Kyoko Yamashita contributed to environmental accuracy and cultural representation.

The wristband progression system returns alongside a new Collection Journal based on Japan’s stamp-collecting traditions. Players document discoveries through points of interest and photography.

Eight customizable homes provide fast travel hubs and vehicle storage with decoration capabilities. The Estate introduces a larger property inspired by akiya (abandoned rural homes), upgradeable through in-game currency from racing, exploration, and delivery missions.

Three permanent Car Meet locations include the Horizon Festival, Okuibuki parking area near The Alps, and Daikoku. Players can socialize, exchange vehicle designs, and purchase showcased cars.Forza Horizon 6

Launch includes approximately 550 vehicles. Two cover cars headline the roster: the 2025 GR GT Prototype and 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser. The opening sequence features the GR GT Prototype tackling Alpine terrain and racing Japan’s high-speed Shinkansen.
